The title page of this lovely book reads simply: “John G. Whittier, Poems”. The book is dedicated to Henry B. Stanton, the author’s personal friend and noted abolitionist, who died in 1887.

The book was published by John W. Lovell Company in New York, and printed by Trow’s Printing and Bookbinding Company, also in New York. No date or edition information is given.

Please note there is another beautifully-bound book in my shop of a biography of Whittier.

The hardcover book is beautifully bound in blue cloth printed with a floral design in brown, black and gold on the cover and spine. Opposite the title page is an illustration of Whittier, protected by a tissue. All page edges are gilt. The original book owner’s name has been written on the flyleaf.

There is some shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spine and the corners are bumped. There is a possible water-stain at the bottom right corner of the front cover. There is a crack at the front flyleaf, but the rest of the binding is tight. The pages have a red border, and are in very good condition, although slightly age-browned. The book contains 319 numbered pages, and measures approximately 5/1/4 by 7-1/2 inches.

This book will be protectively packaged and shipped in a box by media mail, including postal insurance within the US. International postal insurance may be declined if not desired.
